Heterometrus spinifer inhabit lush, often forested areas of Thailand with humid, subtropical to tropical climates. Like many scorpions, they are primarily nocturnal, seeking shelter in burrows, beneath logs, and among leaf litter. They can be kept in pairs or small groups although they are territorial and carnivorous so keep them well fed . They feed on insects such as meal worms or crickets among other things.
They require deep substrate, logs and rocks to burrow under.
